Good Friday Liturgy - Were You There?

Were You There When They Arrested Christ our Lord?

Grabbing him in the garden, while he prayed.

Shocked by Judas’ betrayal.

I was there, afraid for my life.

Were you there when they dragged Jesus before Pilate?

In this masquerade of justice,

As false accusations went unchecked.

I was there, angry that the truth didn’t matter.

The requirements are few and flexibility is maximum.

  • 1 hour/week

  • Flexible times

  • Can be done on Zoom

  • We will provide you with materials

  • No experience is needed

  • NO NEED to speak Spanish

An Invitation to Provide Transportation on Sunday Mornings To and From Church

Many of our Spanish speaking worshippers do not drive.  Most of the time, Leni and Alejandro provide transportation.  However, when they are in the Philippines, many Spanish speaking congregants do not come.  We do not want to have this group of people lose their momentum in coming to church.  If you have time on Sunday mornings and afternoons to provide rides, please let Samantha or Caroline know.

By agreeing to help, you are not committing to doing this permanently.

Ministry Partners Update

Thank You Letter from New College Berkeley (Karen Andrews is the Ministry Partner Liaison)

An Email from Sunday Agang (April 22, 2025)

Dearly Beloved,

I pray that this email finds you continuing to experience God's grace of healing and strength. I write to thank God Almighty for granting me the privilege to know you and have you as a faithful collaborative partner in the Gospel.

You may have heard of the recent killings of Christians in Plateau State where our seminary is situated. It is estimated that a total of sixty people were slaughtered by the Fulani herdsmen last week alone.

Yet, in spite of the bloodbath, which is primarily a religiously motivated genocide in Nigeria, we were able to celebrate the Easter weekend with my family. For us the entire week was period of deep reflection on how God chose to suffer for us. In one of our family devotions during the week we pondered on Jesus's seven sayings on the cross. We were particularly struck by his cry, "My Father, my Father why have you forsaken me." A German theologian, Jurgen Molman has observed that Jesus Christ was representing the human race. For example, whenever evil strikes humans often conclude that God has forsaken them. But while on the cross, Jesus Christ was reminding us of the fact that no matter what God allow to happen to us in this life it does not mean God has forsaken us. Christ's incarnation and death on the cross clearly demonstrate to us that God loves and cares for us beyond any reasonable doubt.

As I personally go through many challenges in my ministry, I can't ignore the fact that God has been using you to support me in the ministry of the Gospel. Therefore, there is no way I can say God has forsaken me. Rather, like Paul says, "I can [only] do all things through Christ who strengthens me." The agents of the devil are out to destroy Christians. But there is good news: Christ is risen indeed! As you ponder on that,  I pray that God will grant you good health, hope and peace as you continue to reciprocate his love and care.

With much love,

Sunday
