“Those Iowa City Mennonites,

Read Apocalyptic Literature;

Ongoing struggle, good and evil…

Invisible but a war for sure….”

Daily Prayer at 12PM by the People of Grace Fellowship Community Church

This week’s daily prayer for March 13 to March 26 is from Randy Chang.

O Lord,

In addition to Iran, we also decry the ongoing violence against the Ukrainian and Palestinian peoples.

For You hear and deliver the needy when they call out to You, the poor and those who have no helper.

From oppression and violence, you redeem their life; precious is their blood in your sight.

Enable us to be Your faithful covenant partners, as You usher in Your shalom to the fullest.

Amen.

Tell Me Something Good Devotional

This Sunday, we begin the 4th Week in Lent: “The good news is…protection and care for the vulnerable.” The church is to be a refuge of radical welcome. Such welcome requires imitating Jesus in looking for, listening for, stooping for, and attending to those who might otherwise become unseen, unheard, and stepped-over distractions on the way to our good and effective agendas.

We will again have an opportunity next week to gather with fellow companions on the journey (see Tell Me Something Good: Gathering Schedule). As before, allow the following linked questions to help you reflect and converse together: TMSG Reflection Questions.

Also, please keep an eye out for announcements in the weekly email about Maundy Thursday. The whole congregation is invited to gather for an evening together on Maundy Thursday, April 2nd at 7:00pm in the church building. More details to follow.

Tzedakah
In the Old Testament, there are two Hebrew words for justice: “mishpat” (legal justice) and “tzedakah” (moral/social justice). Tzedakah, which is often translated into English as righteousness (e.g. Deut. 24:12-13), includes acting with compassion which underlies the practices of jubilee, debt relief, and sabbath. Our God hears the cries of the weak and vulnerable and is compassionate. This week, as we draw nearer to God, to each other, and to our hurting world, may we be agents of tzedakah so that everyone and everything, not just the rich and powerful, might enjoy life as God intends.

Easter Offering

This Easter, we would like to take a special offering for Esther Moses Badung’s (Sunday Agang’s daughter) TRASE (Trauma Resilience and Sustainable Empowerment) Project.

“TRASE is not just a poverty alleviation scheme: it is a holistic initiative that aims to empower individuals and families suffering from trauma, especially trauma resulting from the ongoing Fulani herdsmen kidnapping, attacks and killings, to rebuild their lives,

rediscover their God-given potential, and become agents of positive change.”

You can read more about this project here.

On Sunday, during service, we will hear more about this project from Esther.

You can give by putting a check in our offering box (marked for the Easter offering) or give online.

Flipping the Tables of Oppression, Tuesday, March 31, 11AM - 1PM

On Tuesday, March 31 we will be holding a vigil at the ICE building at 630 Sansome in San Francisco from 11 am-1 pm.

We are planning this as one of the monthly vigils that are hosted by Interfaith Movement 4 Human Integrity. (IM4HI) We will be following Jesus example of flipping the tables of the oppressive systems and companies that are profiting from the genocide in Gaza as well as the unjust immigration system.

Yes, there will be a ritual of flipping tables as well as a call to action. Yes, there will be singing!

Any questions, please reach out to Pastor Al.
